Coupling of finite and boundary elements via fictitious domains

Bericht 2000/08, Sonderforschungsbereich 404, Universität Stuttgart

For the solution of inhomogeneous boundary value problems in complex three-dimensional domains we propose a coupled finite-boundary element method. The problem is reformulated as boundary integral equation to avoid a volume triangulation of the complex structure. To compute the Newton potential a finite element method in a simpler fictitious domain is applied. Corresponding error estimates and a numerical example are given.
